Northwestern University School of Law Partners with Kira Talent to Become the First U.S. Law School to Offer Online Video Interview Option

Online video interviewing and talent assessment platform helps admissions team select students that are the best fit for their program.

Toronto, ON (October 15th, 2015) - Kira Talent, the creators of Kira Academic, the online video interviewing and talent assessment platform used by top colleges and universities around the world, today announces its first law school client, Northwestern University School of Law. The law program has invested in the platform to make the interviewing process more accessible for applicants and aid in evaluating interpersonal skills that cannot be determined by test scores and traditional applications.

Northwestern Law is the only law school in the United States that strongly encourages all incoming JD and LLM program applicants to participate in an interview as a part of the admissions process. Though the law school does not require an admissions interview, about half of the applicant pool completed one in 2014. Integrating the Kira platform will provide a flexible and convenient option for the law school’s applicants.

“Students applying to law schools are busy and arranging interview times can be difficult due to hectic schedules and time zone differences,” said Craig Morantz, CEO of Kira Talent. “We designed Kira to help alleviate these issues while giving admissions teams the tools they need to efficiently select the highest quality students possible. Moving our platform into the world of law school admissions is an exciting milestone for us – one that demonstrates how impactful our technology is.”

The law school launched the Kira Academic platform in mid-September for the 2016 admissions cycle. With the ability to test applicants with timed video and written response questions, the admissions team can now define the attributes most important to their programs and design an application that accurately identifies students that possess them.

“Philosophically, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to conduct an interview,” says Johann Lee, assistant dean, Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at Northwestern Law. “Our hope is the Kira Academic platform will make it easier for applicants to complete an interview, while allowing us to assess competencies that are important for our program such as motivation, empathy, problem solving and resilience.”
